The course will be the same as the 2007 race but the route will be fully flagged from Thurs 24th April. However any training in the area before the 24th April must be restricted to the normal 3 Peaks walking route. Competitors are required to follow the fully marked taped or flagged route throughout. These special arrangements apply only on race day. At other times please keep to recognised paths and rights of way, follow the Country Code, keep dogs under control, use gates and stiles, do not harm farm animals and PLEASE TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME !

Registration

Registration is on race day only and will open at 07:00am and close at 9.40 am. Make sure you register early. The race will start at 10.00am prompt. Make sure you are at the start by 9.45am for a kit check prior to the start. Late starts are NOT permitted.

Electronic Timing and Control System

The race will be timed using the SPORTident Electronic Punching system; those of you who have done any of Martin Stone’s extravaganzas will be familiar with this system. If you have not, here is an explanation. At registration you will each be given a red electronic card and a tamper-proof wristband. The card will be ready for use and should be attached to your wrist using the wristband, with the tip of the card pointing towards you fingers. It is best to use the wrist without your watch on! There will be a demonstration checkpoint at registration so you can familiarize yourself with punching. You dip the tip of the card into the hole in an electronic box at each checkpoint and you will see it flash and hear a beep – this confirms that the location and time have been recorded on your card. You do not need to do anything at the start of the race but at the finish you must dip your card. After you have finished, proceed to the download station near the finish line where we will cut off your wristband, dip your card and provide you with a printout showing your split times at each control and your total time. Please take care of the cards – each one costs £17.50 and if you break or lose it we will have to charge you. There will be several boxes at all the controls – they will be raised off the ground and are quick and easy to use.

Drinks

Drinks will be provided at the valley checkpoints but, if you prefer your own brew, place your suitably labelled container(s) in the boxes at race registration before 9.30 am. They will be transported to the checkpoints for you. Refreshment vouchers will be issued at registration and may be used at the pavilion on the field. Toilets are available on the field and in the centre of Horton.

Showers

Hot showers will be available after the race to enable runners to freshen up prior to attending the presentation.

Supporters

Please ensure that family and friends use the car park at Horton. The ticket is valid all day and the proceeds go to the Playing Fields Committee and help to provide and maintain the facilities on the field. Parking elsewhere in Horton is almost impossible. Car parking elsewhere on the route is restricted. Please do not obstruct the narrow roads and lanes. Parking at Ribblehead has been significantly restricted. Spectators must keep to recognised footpaths. The use of mountain bikes on footpaths is illegal.

If non competitors (including people who have been disqualified under the time or medical rules) continue to run on the course and even pass through checkpoints it causes untold confusion. This puts legitimate competitors at risk and will not be tolerated.

Prize Giving

The prize giving ceremony will be held in the main marquee in the early evening. A free buffet meal will be provided for all competitors and there will be a drinks bar. Race merchandise will be on sale and prize winners photos will be displayed as awards are presented. Trophies are held for one year and must be returned before next year’s race. Please make every effort to attend this ceremony.
